Burry Port Wildlife

Burry Port wildlifeThe Sacred Place where I am entrusted has an inlet of estuarine waters and wetlands and is adjacent to the Gower Coast, a place of "outstanding beauty." However, where I live, the beauty of the estuary is raw, sometimes bleak with bitter offshore winds, but due to Money, Greed of attractive homes and the desire to live where it is technically a FLOOD PLAIN AREA.

This has been brought close to my attention as my two beautiful piebald mares, were magnificent as stalwart campaigners protecting old medieval "Vile" rights, actively grazing on the village green. Now part of this field has been lost to the Carmarthenshire Council Trunk Road and Roundabout, dubbed, "THE ROAD THAT GOES NOWHERE".
Our worries are well founded, as the village green was a gift bestowed to the Folks of Burry Port by the Ashburnham Estate. Already due to the field mowed vigorously it looks like an uninspiring flat area of golf course like grass, NO hope of any Flora or Biodiversity.

Update 23/11/06

With the best intentions various villagers who reside in the already sprawling fishing village of Burry Port were ecstatic with the unanimous result yesterday 21st November at Council Chambers Carmarthenshire.

Carmarthenshire Council who were in debate, re Edward Ware Developments of 40 units in 1 1/2 acres, very close to the few by the Harbour.
The Villagers remain resolute to protect the Harbour and keep its quaintness, remains at present an idyllic haven for walkers, cyclists, fishermen, and the enjoyable cruise  on the Schooner berthed in the Harbour. Also at present the wildlife, Biodiversity, Bug life, Insects, Mammals and finally but not least the Aguilis Fragilis ( SLOW WORMS ) and invertebrates will at least be as ecstatic as the humans indeed !!
